Our Design Guide

We’re here to help you create a balanced space.

The Perfect Fit

We're here to help you find the right rug size for your space. First off, measure your room—the larger the room, the larger the rug you'll need. A rug should sit at least 1 foot from the wall, leaving some floor visible. We prefer leaving as much as 1.5-2 feet as to not overwhelm the space. Next, invest in a rug pad to prolong your rug’s life and prevent slipping. Lastly, place your furniture. It's entirely up to you whether your furniture rests fully on the rug, or partially off—go with what flows best. Following these steps will ensure your room feels harmonious.

Living Room

For high-traffic living rooms (think: kids and pets), ground your space with a low-pile, hand-knotted, or performance rug. For quiet spaces, go cozy with a plush, soft pile.

6×9

The perfect place for smaller rugs is centered under your coffee table to create a focal point for the space. For optimal balance, ensure that any occasional chairs are at least partially placed on the rug as well.

8×10

When using an 8' x 10' rug, position it so that your couch and occasional chairs are partially on the rug. This ensures that all pieces of furniture are included, creating a balanced and cohesive look.

9×12 and up

A larger rug is ideal for defining an entire area. To achieve this, place all furniture fully on the rug, leaving a generous amount of free space around the edges.

Dining Room

In the dining room, we prefer a lower pile rug that allows chairs to slide in and out with ease. We're partial to knotted wool and handwoven jute.

8×10

For a six-seater table, consider starting with an 8' x 10' rug. We like to be able to slide our dining chairs in and out without them coming off the rug.

9×12

For an eight-seater table, opt for a 9' x 12' rug to ensure your chairs have ample room.

Rounds

Round tables and rugs can complement each other well. For a six-seater table, consider an 8' round rug. Round tables and rectangular rugs can also work. In this case, go for an 8' x 10' rug.

Bedroom

When we think bedroom, we think plush. Imagine how you want your bare feet to feel when you step out of bed in the morning. Our favorites are higher pile wools and wool blends.

6×9

For a twin or a double, you'll be set with a 6' x 9' rug.

8×10

For a queen bed, choose an 8’ x 10‘ rug to have room for your nightstands to sit on the rug.

9×12

For a king, we recommend a 9' x 12' rug to allow plenty of room for nightstands.

Kitchen & Hallway

If you often congregate in the kitchen, consider a durable, traffic friendly piece for the space. Hallway rugs similarly require a fiber and construction that can withstand wear, like hand knotted wool or performance materials.

Runners

Runners are great accents for hallways and galley kitchens.

2×3

2' x 3' rugs are a warm, thoughtful addition in front of the sink in your kitchen or bathroom.

3×5

3' x 5' rugs are great in L-shaped kitchens, spacious baths, and entryways.
