At Home With: Calia Booth

Meet Calia Booth, a Los Angeles-based floral artist, social media strategist, and content creator whose visual storytelling weaves together the worlds of analog and digital in a remarkable way. Calia’s work invites us to see beauty in unexpected places: the colors discovered on a hike, the design details in a cozy neighborhood cafe, and the soft palettes found in French films that spark her creative soul.

Beyond her professional artistry, Calia’s creativity shines through personal projects like her newsletter, Library Booth, where she reimagines her favorite books as a dinner party setting, fusing her love of literature and storytelling in a way that is both playful and immersive. Library Booth is a personal favorite of us here on the Corador team, and this venture has not only sharpened Calia’s skills as a writer but also deepened her love for curating meaningful experiences—whether for readers, party guests, or clients.

In this Q&A, Calia takes us behind the scenes of her creative routines, the seasonal shifts in her artistry, and the grounding rituals that keep her inspired. She shares insights into building a brand voice that resonates, infusing her work with values of sustainability and authenticity. Calia reminds us that creativity is more than just a profession; it’s a way of life. Join us as we dive into her world, where art, nature, and a well-loved book create a sense of home and belonging.

How do you approach the use of visuals and color as a visual storyteller? Do you find that your use of analog techniques (i.e. floral design, film photography) informs your work in the digital space, or vice versa?

With regards to floral design, color is incredibly important. Defining my palette is the first part of my journey when crafting an arrangement. I either head to the flower market with a palette already in mind, or let seasonality dictate where to land instead. Occasionally I’ll save a visual that’s really inspired me to my mood board and see a theme bubbling up—for example, a few months back I had saved tons of light pink and burgundy pieces that came down the runway from Simone Rocha and Molly Goddard and I fell straight into that romantic palette for some of my arrangements. So yes, sometimes what I see in the digital space informs my work, but it’s also frequently inspired by nature and seasonality. I love going on hikes and taking note of the colors around me, and I’m also inspired by the city landscape at times. If I find myself in a restaurant or bar with good design, I’ll end up taking pictures of color combinations that have caught my eye—bathroom tile, countertops, wallpaper—you name it!

What are some key elements that you think make a brand's voice stand out? What personal values or themes, if any, do you find yourself infusing into your projects?

Having a clear mission statement and hammering that mission statement home through all levels of marketing/communication—i.e. visuals, copy, collaborations, etc. It essentially means having a tuned in voice and making sure everything you put out is consistent with that voice. I personally really value sustainability, so I make sure to always let that shine through my floral work. I don’t use unnaturally dyed products or floral foam and always buy products that are in season. I also love French cinema and am inspired by the French countryside after studying abroad in Paris and spending some time in Southern France, hence, my brand name. I love some of Eric Rohmer’s films—mainly for the colors and cinematography and take screenshots that I save in a folder that help guide my palettes and help me source cool vintage vessels, too.

We love your newsletter Library Booth where you capture the essence of your favorite literature through an imaginary dinner party setting. Has that outlet influenced your creativity in other areas?

Definitely! It’s nice to have a clear brief sometimes to get my brain going in a different direction. The newsletter has helped me become a better reader, writer, and dare I say—party planner?! Ha. It’s a lot of work, but also a lot of fun and I’ve had some people tell me that they’ve looked to my posts to help them plan a book club party, which is what it’s intended to be, so that really warms my heart.

What does your creative routine look like on a typical day? Does it change from season to season, medium to medium?

My creative routine is all over the place and changes season to season. During the summer, I notice I gravitate towards bright colors and unruly shapes for my floral arrangements, while the Fall gets a bit moodier and asymmetrical. Winter is sparse and Spring (my favorite) is the most abundant and colorful.

How do you cultivate creativity in your everyday life? Are there any personal rituals or routines you practice to keep your creativity flowing? Or any roadblocks you’ve experienced?

Everyone hits creativity roadblocks from time to time. I tackle them by going on a nature walk. I’m lucky being in Los Angeles as there are so many trails and hillsides just a short drive away. I also love getting lost in a museum, or rewatching some of my favorite films. I try to avoid social media when I hit a creative slump because I feel like everyone’s doing the same thing and it doesn’t feel unique when the algorithm is feeding you one train of thought.

What makes you feel at home?

Home is when I have a book. I love reading. Outside of taking a nature walk it’s the number one thing that calms me down. So, when I’m off traveling or have been on the go all day, all I want to do is curl up and read my book. I look forward to it every day. When I’m actually at home I’m usually in my reading chair in the living room with a candle lit and a book in hand. Pure bliss!
